Why There’s Hope for Libya
In an article published on 22 April with Newlines Magazine, former UN envoys to Libya Ghassan Salamé and Stephanie Williams review the efforts pushed by the UN to support Libya’s security and political stabilization between 2019 and 2021. In doing so, Ghassan and Williams reaffirm their vision that peace and stability can only be achieved in Libya through a political process, with the support of the international community. The UN peace process for Libya was severely undermined in April 2019 by General Haftar’s attempt to attack Tripoli and the Government of National Accord (GNA), claiming support from key international players such as the US.
