On 8 February, writing for Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Emadeddin Badi and Wolfram Lacher express the concern that despite having successfully managed the appointment of a new political body for Libya, the UN-led Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) has not managed to address substantive disagreements between Libya’s conflicting factions. They suggest that the appointment of Abdul Hameed Dabaiba as the new Prime Minister for Libya and Mohammad Menfi as the President of the three-man Presidential Council most likely resulted from attempts by competing members of the LPDF to ensure the defeat of their political opponents. As such, Badi and Lacher note the persisting lack of a common political vision for Libya, which is most likely to strain the new political body’s ability to bring change to the Libyan political system.Click here to read the article.
