On 4 April, The Hill published an opinion piece by James Durso, in which the contributor analyses the United States’s policy towards Libya and argues that the US’s reluctance to get more involved in Libya affairs undermines peace prospects. More specifically, James Durso addresses the issue of US awaited assent to the nomination of a successor to Ghassan Salamé as United Nations Special Envoy to Libya. According to Durso, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has identified Algerian diplomat Ramtane Lamama as Salame’s replacement, however the US still needs to validate this nomination.
