Jalel Harchaoui, Tarek Megerisi, Ahmad al-Messallati, Kaouthar Hassan and Farhat Asseid commented on the renewed tensions in Western Libya in an article published by Le Nouvel Observateur on 6 April. The article questions General Haftar's plan following the launch of a Libyan National Army (LNA) offensive in Western Libya, presenting different perspectives through the comments of Harchaoui, Megerisi, Al-Messallati, Hassan and Asseid. The overall analysis is that the offensive was launched as part as a strategy to impose Haftar as Libya's strongman as Libya prepares for the UN-led National Conference, as an attempt to influence the outcomes of the political negotiations. They also question Haftar's ability to conquer Tripoli by force, suggesting that the General is not as strong as he claims to be. For Al-Messallati, his success will depend on whether he manages to form strong alliances in Western Libya.Click here to read the article.
