On 23 June, Patrik Kurath, Executive Vice-President of the Middle East and North Africa Forum at the University of Cambridge, wrote in Foreign Policy that restoring Libya's monarchy could help bring stability to Libya. Kurath argues that a monarch removed from party politics would unite Libyans under a single identity and offer a means of arbitration to help prevent new democratic institutions from backsliding. For Kurath, lack of broad support for the Government of National Unity and the need to avoid a foreign-imposed solution for Libya mean that alternative arrangements should be considered.
