The demonstration of thousands of protestors in favor of the GNA is described in an article from Agence France-Presse. Demonstrators called for Khalifa Ghweil, head of the defunct GNC authorities, to leave while waving white flags and Libyan flags. Shortly after these protests and the defection of many members of his government, Ghwell tendered his resignation. The timing of the protest came just two days after prime minister-designate Fayez al-Sarraj arrived in the capitol.
The protest in favour of the Government of National Accord (GNA) was held in Martyr's Square, where for more than 18 months demonstrators had marched in support of Tripoli's unrecognised government.
But the head of the Tripoli authorities Khalifa Ghweil has demanded that Sarraj leave the capital or "hand himself in", branding his government "illegal".
"We used to fear the militias and those who oppressed us but today the fear is over. We no longer want militias. We only want a national army," said a protester who called himself Salah.
