On 25 April, International Crisis Group (ICG) released its latest report on Libya, in which the rise of Madkhali-Safalis in Libya is examined. The report identifies the ways in which the Madkhali movement (an ultra-conservative Sunni Muslim doctrine) has spread its influence across Libya and the extents to which it impacts already existing divisions. For ICG, the Madkhali poses a threat to stability in Libya. The report also addresses the support provided by Madkhali to General Haftar, which is interesting in the light of the current conflict between forces affiliated with the Government of National Accord (GNA) and Eastern Libyan forces.Click here to read or download the report.
