On 3rd January, Libyan National Army (LNA) aircraft targeted a civilian aircraft in Jufra airbase which was transporting senior officers from Misrata, killing one civilian and injuring others including the chief of the Misrata Military Council. The aircraft was reportedly scrambled from the Ras Lanuf airstrip where the LNA has been building up its forces over the last few weeks since taking over there last September. The action comes as conflict between LNA and Misratan forces continue to escalate over Misratan positions in air bases in southern Libya. The clashes have already created deep divisions in the UN-backed GNA leading to the resignation of a key member from the GNA.Click here to read a Reuters article with more details on this development.
