On 18 August, the Libyan National Army (LNA) issued a positive response to an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Mahmoud al-Werfalli, saying that the notorious commanderWerfalli has been suspended pending an investigation. The LNA’s statement said, "The defendant in your judicial case, Mahmoud al-Werfalli, is under investigation for the cases against him by the general military prosecutor and is now under arrest". It also announced the LNA’s “readiness to cooperate with you in informing you of the result and course of the judicial case," although it did not say that the LNA would be prepared to hand him over to the ICC. This prompted the US, UK and France to issue a joint statement on 19 August welcoming the LNA’s announcement. Protests were held both in Benghazi and Bani Walid against the LNA’s suspension of Werfalli.Click here to read more about this.
