Middle East Eye publishes article on Egyptian intelligence efforts for a 'Cairo-friendly' Libya government

On 6 September, Middle East Eye published an article by Ahmed Abdeen, titled ‘Inside Egypt intelligence's plan for a 'Cairo-friendly' Libya government’. Abdeen speaks to sources from Egypt’s intelligence service and foreign ministry, who share their insights on a recent diplomatic crisis between Egypt and the Tripoli-based government, which saw two Egyptian diplomats expelled and declared persona non grata. According to the article, the expulsion of the diplomats was linked to a visit to Benghazi that took place days earlier by Egypt's spy chief Abbas Kamel, who met with commander Khalifa Haftar and other eastern officials. Moreover, the Tripoli government was further ‘infuriated’ when Cairo invited rival PM Osama Hammad for a visit in August.
