Political Reconciliation Must Have Support of Wider Range of Factions

Rhiannon Smith spoke to the Voice of America's Africa Today programme to discuss the likely impact of the joint declaration issued by GNA Prime Minister Fayez al-Serraj and General Khalifa Haftar following the Paris meeting on 25 July, highlighting that although Serraj has some political legitimacy in western Libya and Haftar has some military legitimacy in eastern Libya, they are only two factions among the myriad different groups and militias who must support, or at least must not actively oppose, the political reconciliation process and elections in order for them to have a chance at succeeding.Go to 08.30 to hear the interview.
