Rhiannon Smith on VOA about UN-led National Conference

On 28 March, Managing Editor of Libya-Analysis Rhiannon Smith was interviewed by Mohammed Elshinnawi for Voice of America, ‘Africa News Tonight’. Smith discussed the stakes of the National Conference organised by the UN Special Mission to Libya (UNSMIL). Smith explains that the stakes of the event are high, as the UN intends to gather Libya’s political actors to draw a roadmap towards the end of the crisis. The participants, which have not been announced yet, will be gathered to reach a consensus on controversial issues such as the drafting of the Constitution and the organisation of democratic parliamentary and presidential elections in Libya. Smith argues that in order to be bear results, the Conference needs the participation of a wide range of Libyan actors. She also adds that it is imperative for such discussions to be followed by actions on the ground.Click here to listen to Rhiannon Smith on VOA (between minutes 13:25 and 18:45)
