The Atlantic Council: ‘Israel, Libya, and Italy were just reminded that diplomacy requires more than diplomats’

On 30 August, the Atlantic council published an article by Libyan-Italian scholar Karim Mezran, titled ‘Israel, Libya, and Italy were just reminded that diplomacy requires more than diplomats’. In his article, Mezran comments on the recent Rome-brokered meeting between GNU Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush and her Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen, reviewing the consequences of the controversial incident and the lessons each of the three actors should learn from it. He concludes by arguing that while seeking cooperation or regional integration between Arab and Israel is important, any ‘approach lacking sufficient care can end with a setback to the cause of regional peace and stability’.
