On 3 March, The National Interest published an article by Amine Ghoulidi, titled ‘Russia’s Libya Push Should Alarm The U.S. And Europe’. Ghoulidi warns against Russia’s growing involvement in Libya, particularly in the aftermath of Bashar al-Assad’s fall in Syria. He argues that this shift may increase risks to European and regional security by ‘concentrating Russian power closer to NATO’s southern flank, potentially allowing Russia to exploit regional fractures in Libya and elsewhere.’ This, he adds, poses a challenge for the United States and its allies, who will need to contain Russian ambitions while averting further fragmentation in North Africa.
