On 22 March, the Wilson Center published an article titled ‘Water Weaponization in Libya: A Conversation with Erika Weinthal’. The article features an interview with environmental security specialist Erika Weinthal, who focuses on water and energy dynamics during conflict and has written about the ‘weaponization’ of water and targeting of infrastructure in Libya. Weinthal argues that rival parties in Libya are trying to ‘capture and control the country’s highly integrated water infrastructure’, using it ‘as a way to extract demands or concessions from different warring groups or militias’.
