On 4 January, Turkish broadcaster TRT World published an article by North Africa researcher Fuat Sefkatli, titled ‘Can the world help war-torn Libya find peace in 2024?’. Based on post-2011 developments including civil war, economic instability, and delayed elections, Sefkatli presents what he views as potential scenarios for Libya in 2024. The first scenario, he argues, involves GNU Prime Minister Abdul Hameed Dabaibah achieving political reconciliation between the country’s eastern and western camps, which he describes as ‘the most desirable [scenario] for Libya's peace and stability’. The second envisages continued political and social divisions, while the third involves regional and international actors increasingly employing 'preventive diplomacy' over military alternatives.
