On 13 November, the U.S Department of State published a press release welcoming the conclusions of the international conference on Libya hosted by Italy in Palermo on 12-13 November. The Libyan and international participants of the Conference have expressed their support and commitment to the UN Action Plan pushed forward by the UN Special Envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salamé. The UN agenda plans for a Libyan-led National Conference to be held in early 2019 to prepare for the organisation of elections in the spring of 2019. The press release published by the United-States insists on the importance to focus on the economic and security aspects of the conflicts, as agreed by the participants of the conference. On the matter of security, the United-States also saluted the recent efforts and solutions implemented by Fayez Al Sarraj’s Government of National Accord (GNA) and the United Nations Support Mission for Libya (UNSMIL).Click here to read the press release in full.
