Jason Pack, the founder of Libya-Analysis, recently gave a talk at the Vail Symposium entitled “From Qadhafi to Chaos: Libya's Centrality in Western Geostrategy and the Fight Against Jihadism”. Ahead of the talk Pack spoke to Good Morning Vail about why he considers Libya to be one of the five most important geopolitical hot-spots for the U.S. Pack suggests the reasons for this are because of a series of aligning factors:“Libya bestrides the Mediterranean, North African and Middle Eastern systems: it’s a conduit for most of the African migrants who go to Europe and its because of those migrants who have gotten to Europe that European politics has been driven to the right — no implosion of Libyan state, certainly no Brexit. Then, it’s a hub for jihadi groups: the ability for jihadi groups to connect with the African system and the Middle East or Levantine system is entirely predicated on the fact that Libya is an ungoverned space. Then there is the question of oil: Libya has the largest amount of oil reserves in all of Africa and whether those are pumping or hijacked affects the economy of all the neighboring states.Click here to watch the interview.
