Carnegie: ‘Seeking Justice for the Forcibly Displaced in Libya’

On 9 May, the Carnegie Endowment published an analysis article entitled ‘Seeking Justice for the Forcibly Displaced in Libya’ by Libyan journalist and documentary producer Abdelrhman Zayid. In his article, Zayid argues that ‘poorly designed’ reconciliation initiatives adopted by the local authorities in Libya could ‘perpetuate the cycle of abuse and hinder the reintegration of displaced populations’. He specifically criticises certain amnesty and immunity laws, adding that even UNSMIL initiatives ‘will potentially yield similar results’ because they fail to address ‘the long legacy of violations that the forcibly displaced have had to endure’.
