On 15 April, French newspaper Le Monde published an interview of Ghassan Salame, the UN Special Envoy to Libya, with journalist Frédéric Bobin. Discussing Haftar’s offensive against Tripoli, Salamé says that the attack has caused significant damages to the UN-led political process, undermining the progresses that had been made. Moreover, he also admits that the reaction of the international community to the fighting has revealed the dissensions within the international community. Salame reasserted the importance of political dialogue, insisting that stabilisation in Libya cannot be fostered through the military solution.Click here to read the interview in full.
