Last week, Richard B. Norland was officially nominated by U.S President Trump as the next U.S Ambassador to Libya, replacing Peter Bodde. In his opening statement before the SFRC Confirmation Hearing, Norland announced three key priorities as the U.S new representative in Libya, namely the resolution of the ongoing fighting, the re-launch of a political agreement and supporting the economic development of the oil-rich country. For analysts, the Trump administration has been sending mixed signals regarding its policy towards Libya since fighting erupted in Tripoli in early April revealing an apparent uncertainty on whether the U.S should get more involved in the efforts to stabilize Libya and under which conditions.
