In an article published with Carnegie Middle East Center on 24 September, Michael Young interviews Emaddin Badi, Libyan activist and development practitioner, about the situation in Libya and perspectives for the future. Badi portrays a deeply unstable country which presents features of both civil war and state collapse due to persisting fighting and divisions between rival factions. Badi argues that unless major reform of the state, Libya’s governance issues are likely persist, and perhaps to the point of partition. Regarding the resurgence of Islamic State (IS) in Libya, Badi responds that the terrorist group continues to represent a threat as the same causes that gave rise to the Islamic State still exist in the country.Click here to read the article.
