The UN Tries to Stitch Libya Back Together

An excellent overview of the extent of the quagmire from the Economist.

IF THE latest announcement of Bernardino León, the UN envoy to Libya, was meant to bring that country’s warring sides together, he has succeeded. His proposed “unity” government, announced on October 8th, has been met with criticism in both the east and the west of the country.Meanwhile, Libya’s economy is on the verge of collapse. The war has cut into the production of oil, whose price has fallen anyway. The country is burning through its foreign reserves. Over a third of the population is in need of protection or humanitarian aid, says the UN.
