Jalel Harchaoui, a senior fellow specializing in Libya at the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, published an article in Newlines Magazine assessing the election chances of Saif al-Islam Qadhafi’s through the lens of the long-standing feud with his brother Mutassim. Harchaoui argues that ‘the contradiction between Mutassim and Saif contributed to the regime’s disjointed response to the 2011 revolt’ and that few Green faction leaders in today’s Libya have ‘forgotten what Saif’s inconsistency can cost them’.
