On 5 November, the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) voted the renewal of the Libyan sanctions regime until 2020. UK Political Coordinator to the UN Stephen Hickey issued a statement welcoming the vote of the Security Council and most particularly the inclusion of gender-based violence among the criteria. Hickey highlights the importance of the sanctions as a tool for the UN and its member states to support the efforts of the Government of National Accord (GNA).
