In a recent article published with AFD and Yahoo on 20 May, Imed Lamloum reports that despite an embargo imposed by the UN relating to the supply or arms and military equipment to and from Libya since February 2011, weapons and military equipment still flow to Libya, fuelling the crisis. Lamloum indicates that foreign powers have been supplying both rival Libyan factions. Quoted in the article, Wolfram Lacher of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) noted that:
The more both sides receive arms and ammunition from their foreign backers, the longer the war will last, the more destructive it will be, and the more difficult it will be to resolve
