Libya Herald publishes Op-Ed on 'stagnant Libyan political process'

On 19 December, the Libya Herald published an op-ed by Sami Zapita, titled ‘Another UNSMIL Libya initiative, another Bouznika meeting – the domestic and international status quo conspiracy continues against Libyan citizens?’. Looking at the recent Consultative Meeting between the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High State Council (HSC) in Bouznika, Morocco, Zapita notes that the meetings unsurprisingly resulted in ‘no major earth-shattering breakthrough’, given Libya’s ‘stagnant’ political process. He reviews the stakes for key actors like HoR Speaker Ageela Saleh, Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar, and Tripoli-based Prime Minister Abdul Hameed Dabaiba, arguing that ‘there are no adequate domestic or international carrots or sticks in place to encourage or force [HoR and HSC] to hand over power’.
