Tasci looks at the recent resignation of UN Special Envoy Abdoulaye Bathily and what it means for Libya’s political scene, arguing that it ‘stems from the unsatisfactory results of a prolonged period of experimentation’. He also speaks to several analysts, who argue that Bathily’s departure underscores deeper, more systemic issues, including the involvement of external actors like Egypt and a failure to pressure both the HoR and the HCS to call for simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections.
